About
History Of The Foundation
Auntie Veronica Akua Nyarko (VAN) Adjei, was a hardworking and talented woman who dedicated her life to improving her circumstances and serving the welfare of others. Veronica engaged in various small and medium-scale businesses such as soap making, running a restaurant, farming, managing a drinking bar, processing gari (cassava flakes), and selling in a local shop. Her most successful and long-lasting venture was owning a small local drugstore, which could be said to showcase her entrepreneurial skills and affinity health care, an area of specialty she could have developed had she received formal education.
Veronica’s life was marked by her courage to take risks, learn new skills, and pursue diverse experiences. She even participated in and won the Asankrangwa beauty pageant in the early 70s, showcasing her adventurous spirit and belief in herself. The VAN Tree Foundation aims to celebrate Veronica’s passion for education and quest for knowledge in health sciences and to empower others, in particular, girls who show a drive for purpose and excellence. The Foundation recognizes the importance of supporting girls’ education and promoting community health and awareness.
The VAN Tree Foundation will fulfill its mission in Asankrangwa, Western Region, Ghana, in partnership with the Asankrangwa Catholic Diocese and secondary/tertiary institutions to implement the Annual Student Performance Award Program, which recognizes and rewards outstanding academic achievements among female students in Asankrangwa.
Additionally, the Foundation will work with hairdressers, barbers, the Nursing training school, and the Asankrangwa Catholic Diocese to launch the Be-Ware program. This community-based initiative will focus on educating and raising awareness about basic health care with the goal of improving the overall well-being of the community.
